I forgot to post it when it ran last week, but I’ve got an interview with Rhett Miller running with Paste right now.
As I mentioned before, this was one of the neater things I’ve done, writing-wise, this year, just because I’ve been such a huge fan of the guy’s work for such a long time, and I felt like the interview was able to go in some interesting directions.
Another neat part of this was that the editor at Decider who I pitched it to was cool with me taking the excess from the interview to another publication – and that Paste was cool with running one of two interviews between me and Rhett Miller. The two articles do not overlap in the slightest, with the Decider piece focused mostly on his new solo record, while the Paste one is more about his approach to songwriting throughout his career, as well as a bit about what the Old 97’s are up to – the leftover material mostly being a byproduct of the fact that I was just excited to be able to ask questions about the characters in his songs that I’ve been thinking about for longer than I’ve been a rock journalist. It’s pretty cool that there’s a market for that stuff.
